Modelling COVID-19 Transmission

Sep 2020

Project Description:

With USC Makers, a robotics/EE design team at USC, I was in a small project group that created a small program to model COVID-19 transmission with adjustable parameters. This Python program was created in Visual Studio Code and was based on previously published research papers to check and improve their modelling. The program models COVID-19 droplet movement, position, concentration, and exposure using physics concepts like terminal velocity and Gaussian distributions. The final program models transmission between an infected person and one other individual. Users can choose humidity, temperature, and distance where the program will plot graphs modelling transmission behavior.

Responsibilities:

  • Created Python program using physics concepts and Visual Studio Code to model and graph COVID-19 transmission based on adjustable parameters.

  • Worked with a small group to discuss various approaches and impacts, and analyze the results compared to the reference research paper.
